I started learning guitar with Katrina aged 59 about 18 months ago. I had absolutely no background in music and decided if I was going to learn I had better do it soon. I obtained a guitar and like every other moron since the thing was invented thought I might be able to learn it all from YouTube videos. Well, I couldn’t. A quick search on line found me Petts Wood Guitar and Katrina. After reassuring me I COULD learn at my advanced age, I booked fortnightly lessons.

Katrina swiftly taught me a few basics and actually I was strumming what I thought were reasonably advanced tubes very quickly. I enjoy it so I practice and obviously that practice is key.

My mother-in-law was recently diagnosed with vascular dementia. This is a progressive irreversible condition the progress of which can be slowed. One recommended way is by singing. My M-I-L was a teen in the 50s, and was a huge fan of the old rock and rollers. Now I practice at her house some days, strumming the tunes I learned from Katrina and with her and my wife singing along with me!

All exercise is good for your health and learning an instrument is good for MY brain health too. Katrina would get more than 5*s from me if they were available. Highly recommended!
